Abstract

This building grant for $3.9 million dollars is to establish the Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles. This grant will be matched by $4.825 million dollars from the University of California, Los Angeles. Together these funds will permit the construction, equipping and staffing of the Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center at UCLA. The primary goals of the proposed Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center are, (1) to provide a focus for multidisciplinary high quality research directed to the prevention and cure of diabetes, (2) to provide a center for training future investigators in islet biology, (3) together with the excellent physicians and scientists already present at UCLA working in diabetes, to contribute to the establishment of a premier center for diabetes research, diabetes patient care and diabetes education on the West Coast.
